Major David C. Andersen USMC (ret)
Former Director of Marine Corps Public Affairs New York City.

Major AndersenUpon entering the Marine Corps in 1986, Second Lieutenant Andersen reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia to undergo initial training. After graduating, he was assigned to the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

Second Lieutenant Andersen was then assigned to Battery B, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment located in Kaneohe, Hawaii where he was promoted to First Lieutenant and served as a Forward Observer for 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment (Rein). After returning to his parent unit, First Lieutenant Andersen then served as a Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Commander and Executive Officer. He was also subject to numerous deployments, including Okinawa.

First Lieutenant Andersen later transferred to Quantico, Virginia and was assigned as an instructor at The Basic School where he instructed Field Artillery, Heavy Machine Guns, Small Arms and Offensive/Defensive Tactics to new Second Lieutenants entering the U.S. Marine Corps? officer corps. Prior to his reassignment, Captain Andersen served as Aide-de-Camp to Brigadier General Davis, Marine Corps University.

Captain Andersen then returned to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for training at the Advanced Field Artillery Officer Course.

Captain Andersen was later assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina with 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment as Commanding Officer of HQ Battery. After also serving as Commanding Officer, Battery S, Battalion Operations Officer (S-3), Battalion Logistics Officer (S-4) and being a 2d Marine Division nominee of the Leftwich Trophy, Captain Andersen was assigned to Inspector-Instructor Duty, Battery D, 2d Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment in Waterloo, Iowa.

After numerous deployments with Battery D and the unit being awarded the General Hardy Award for the Most Outstanding Unit in the 4th Marine Division, Captain Andersen was assigned a new Occupational Specialty of Public Affairs Officer.

After graduating from the Defense Information School at Ft. Meade, Maryland, Major Andersen was assigned to the Media Branch of Headquarters Marine Corps in The Pentagon.

Major Andersen is now the Director of the New York City Public Affairs Office, where he was assigned prior to the September 11th attacks on our Nation. Major Andersen then deployed to Iraq during 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Outstanding Military Service Volunteer Medal and the Korean Defense Service Medal.
