On November 6th County Legislator Jim Maisano presented a Westchester County Proclamation to Bill Gallo, the legendary sportswriter and cartoonist at the New York Daily News. Bill was the guest speaker at a brunch by the Westchester County Marine Corps League to honor this week's 230th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps (born on November 10, 1775) which was held at Mannions in Yonkers, NY. Bill served in the Marines during WWII and saw combat in the heroic victory on Iwo Jima and shared his insights into his WWII Marine's anecdotes.
County Legislator Maisano stated "As a former Marine, this was a special experience because I have enjoyed Bill Gallo's articles and cartoons since I was old enough to read in the late 1960s, and his classic work always brought a smile to my face".
Also present was Dennis Carpenter, author of "Anyone here a Marine". Both Bill and Dennis signed books for the guests.
