New York (Oct. 4, 2007) — The Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps was among distinguished guests in attendance at the Soldiers', Sailors', Marines', Coast Guard & Airmen's Club's 11th annual military ball Oct. 3 at the Pierre Hotel. Each year, the ball honors one of the military services—this year marked the Marine Corps' turn. Military supporters and active and retired members of all services enjoyed a ceremonial presentation of the colors by a joint color guard and performances by the Leatherneck Pipes & Drums and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Cadet Glee Club.
Distinguished guests included: Gen. Robert Magnus, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, who received the Distinguished Military Leadership award for CMC Gen. James T. Conway; Robert Morgenthau, New York District Attorney; Raymond Kelly, New York Police Department Commissioner and retired Marine Corps colonel; and Marine Iwo Jima veteran Bill Gallo, award-winning sports cartoonist and journalist for New York Daily News. Members of the Wounded Warrior Regiment set up by Conway also attended the ball
