It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Detachment Member Anthony Romeo. A  longtime Yonkers resident, died on May 15 after a brief illness. He was 85 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, eight of his children, Raymond, Delia, Roger, Kenneth, Mary Jo, Andrew, Jennifer and Edmund, and 22 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Dennis, who died in 1982 at the age of 21. He is also survived by his brother, Eugene, and his sister, Vilma. Anthony was born in Brooklyn in 1922 of immigrant parents and proudly served his country during WWII as a U.S. Marine. He married Mary Mahoney in 1948 and worked for Benjamin Moore Paint Company, where he had a wonderful, 47 year career in sales. Anthony moved his young family to Yonkers in 1954 and they became parishioners of St. Eugene's Church, where all his children attended school. As well as raising his family, Anthony devoted his time to numerous community and civic organizations. He served as president of the Holy Name Society and president of the 11th Ward Republican Club, he was the founder and first Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 5 of Crestwood, and he served as coach, manager, commissioner and board member of Henry S. Richards Boys Club. Anthony found much joy in singing and served as past president and board member of the Golden Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus. He also proudly sang in the church choir with his wife. Immediately after retirement, Anthony dedicated his time to serving the community by volunteering at Lawrence Hospital in the Emergency Room for twenty years. He was an avid historian and active member of the Little Bighorn Associates. He had a collection of memorabilia regarding General George A. Custer and was always happy to share his passion for history with others, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday and 3 to 7 PM Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Eugene's Church, Yonkers on Monday May 19 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lawrence Hospital Center Emergency Department, 55 Palmer Avenue, Bronxville, NY 10708.
