Public Relations Officer
Al Cavallo (917-299-5232)

No. 0734
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug 21, 2005

Department of New York Commandant “Chet” Catuzza has approved the “SILVER4NEWYORK” program which will provide funding to purchase a Silverware set (Officers Mess) for the Naval ship USS NEW YORK (LPD-17) which is now under construction.

The amphibious transport will be used to transport and land Marines, and their equipment for amphibious assaults. The LPD-17 will be a highly reliable, warfare capable ship and the most survivable amphibious ship ever put to sea.

“The USS New York will ensure that all New Yorkers and the world will never forget the evil attacks of 911, and the courage and compassion New Yorkers showed in their response to terror” said Governor George Pataki. It was reported that steel from The Twin Towers will be used in the construction of the hull.

Under the program member Marines will pledge $1.00 for each pound they will lose within a time period to be determined by the Commandant Catuzza..

The program committee will be under the leadership of Commandant
Ed Van Leuvan (Sunrise Detachment), and Long Island Area Vice Steve Reilly.
